During adolescence, rapid growth makes the tibial tubercle apophysis vulnerable to traction from the quadriceps. Osgood-Schlatter disease is a traction injury at that site, common in active youths undergoing a growth spurt. They typically have anterior knee pain just below the kneecap that worsens with running, jumping, or kneeling. This combination—growth and high activity—explains why adolescents are the most affected group, with adults or infants far less likely.
